How to Join the Meeting with Audio on Meetup1?

Anyone can join the audio in a Meetup1 meeting if they have a connected audio device.

Upon joining a session, you will see the Audio Choice prompt, offering two options:

  1. Join with a microphone.
  2. Select Listen Only to hear the meeting without speaking.

If you are in the session and don’t see an indicator next to your emoticon in the users list, it means you are not connected to the audio. Try refreshing your browser to activate the audio chooser.

Join with a Microphone:

If you want others to hear you, select Microphone [1].

When you select microphone, your browser will prompt you for permission to access your microphone. Be sure to select Allow.

Next, you will enter a private Echo Test to ensure your microphone is functioning correctly.

When the Echo Test dialog appears, speak a few words into your microphone. You should hear an echo of your voice, reflecting how you will sound to others in the session.

If you hear your voice clearly, click Yes [2].

A pop up message will appear to indicate that you are sharing your audio.

If you do not hear yourself, select No [3].  The Change Audio Settings dialog will appear giving you options to change your audio settings.

If you encounter issues, try selecting a different Microphone [1] and Speaker [2] from the available To resolve audio issues:

  1. Select a different Microphone [1] and Speaker [2] from the dropdown list of available devices.
  2. Click Play Sound [3] to test the speakers.
  3. Once adjustments are made, click Retry [4] to re-enter the Echo Test and confirm your microphone is working.

If you still cannot hear yourself in the Echo Test, refer to the troubleshooting section for further guidance.

After successfully connecting with a microphone, a microphone icon will appear next to your name in the user list.

When your microphone is successfully connected, a mic icon—either muted or unmuted—will appear next to your emoticon in the users list.

Join Listen-Only Mode:

If you don’t plan to speak during the session or are in a location with significant background noise, you can choose to join in listen-only mode.

To join the session in listen-only mode, select Listen Only [2].

If you prefer not to connect to audio at all, click the ‘X’ in the upper-right corner of the Audio Chooser dialog.

Listen-Only Mode

When you successfully connect in listen-only mode, a headset icon will appear next to your emoticon in the users list.

Troubleshooting Microphone Issues

If you are still unable to hear yourself during the echo test on Windows or Mac OS X, follow these steps:

  1. Contact Support: Reach out to our support team at support@meetup1.com for further assistance.
  2. Rejoin Audio with Microphone: Attempt to connect again and proceed with the steps below, specifically for the Chrome browser.

Steps to Resolve Microphone Issues:

  1. Refresh the Client: Click the refresh button in your browser. You don’t need to log in again—the client will reload automatically.
  2. Verify Your Microphone: Ensure your microphone is functioning correctly.
    • On Windows 10:
      • Right-click the audio icon in the taskbar.
      • Select Open Sound Settings to check your microphone setup.

Windows will open a Settings window showing you the settings for your current input audio devices.

Testing Your Microphone

  1. Speak into your microphone and observe the energy bar under Test Your Microphone. It should highlight as you speak.
    • If there is no response, select a different microphone under Choose Your Audio Device.
  2. Once the microphone shows activity:
    • Close the Settings window.
    • Leave and rejoin the session, or refresh the page in BigBlueButton.
    • When prompted to join the audio, select Microphone and verify that you can hear yourself during the echo test.

For macOS Users:

  1. Open System Preferences and search for Sound.
  2. Select the Sound Input tab to check your microphone setup.

As you talk, you need to see blue bars highlight on the Input Level. Tap your microphone — you should use see the blue energy bars move. If not, select a different microphone from the list.

Once your microphone shows activity in the energy bar, close the Settings window and either leave and rejoin the session or refresh the page in Meetup1.

When prompted to join audio, select Microphone, and you should now hear yourself during the echo test.

If you still do not hear yourself, ensure that Chrome has permission to access the microphone on macOS.
